Since starting out as a Web Designer, I've had the pleasure of working with some great people on some fantastic projects

No two clients are ever the same, with different ideas of what they want visually, and entirely different goals and motivations for their project. There is no greater sense of acheivement than being able to produce something that is exactly what the client desired.

Skills & Services

Here is a list of skills and services I'm confident to provide to clients. Moving forward, I hope to specialize in the Internet of Things, and gain skills that will focus on this aspect of technology and connected living.

  • i

I'm confident designing websites that appeal to both the client and their customer base, synergising with the business.

  • h

In turn I'm able to turn these designs in to robust websites, using the latest technologies, conforming with web standards.

  • d

    User Interface

By following usability heuristics and principles, I can create simple to use and attractive user interfaces.

  • g

    User Experience

Through various methods of testing, I can ensure the user interface meets its usability requirements.

  • p

    Online Marketing

Each business has different online marketing needs. I can advise the best way to win new clients or sell more products on the web.

  • m

    Digital Consultancy

I can help advise the best hardware, software and digital tools available to help improve business processes, efficiency or appeal.

Having worked for companies of all sizes, as well as freelancing both at home and abroad I've gained some fantastic experience. I feel as comfortable working on my own initiative as I do in part of a team, and I'm always open to opportunities to develop myself professionally.

  • 2015 - Present

    Designer / Developer

    Freelance / Arachnophobia Design

Whilst studying an HND in Interactive Media at Edinburgh College, a classmate and I decided to work together, approaching businesses to offer our web design services. We have been lucky enough to work with some fantastic clients, and I hope to continue designing and developing bespoke websites, that fully meet the clients requirements.

  • 2014 - Present

    Sales Consultant

Having now worked with Sony for over two and a half years, I have acheived incredible success in this position. In May 2016 I spent a week in Japan, after being awarded the top sales promoter in the UK. I've developed both my technical knowledge and sales skills in this role, whilst studying a full time HND in Interactive Media. I'm currently employed by Sony on a part time basis.

  • 2010 - 2013

    Freelance Management and Teaching

    Various Companies, China

I was lucky enough to fulfil one of my dreams, which was working and living in China. Originally it was to be a 6 month working holiday, but this extended to over three and a half years in which time I studied Mandarin, set up my own recruitment business, had a textbook published and offered my Management and Teaching services on a freelance basis, to a number of Schools and Universities across the country.

    Sales, Customer Service & Recruitment

After leaving school at 15 with my GCSEs, I went straight in to work and gained experience in a number of customer service, recruitment and sales & marketing positions. Most of my experience was gained in direct sales where I always exceeded targets and expectations of my employer. Understanding people and working well as part of a team were key elements to all these positions, with companies of all sectors and sizes.

Through a hugely varied vocational background, as well as personal interests I have developed many useful transferrable skills. Here are just a few broad areas I've gained experience in.

It was a difficult decision to come back to the UK from China and return to education as a mature student. I had always been passionate about technology though, and knew I had to gain the skills and qualifications if I wished to pursue a career in this field. By Summer 2018, I hope to have graduated Napier University in Edinburgh, with a BSc(Hons) in Creative Computing.

  • 2016 - 2018 (ongoing)

    BSc(Hons) Creative Computing

    Edinburgh Napier University

A conditional offer has been made and I've accepted a place on the 2016 intake of Creative Computing at Napier University. The focus of my studies will be connected living and the Internet of Things, with additional modules taken in Entrepreneurship.

    Expected graduation is Summer 2018.

  • 2014 - 2016

    HND Interactive Media

    Edinburgh College

Returning as a mature student I was required to complete an access course before joining the HND in Interactive Media. In the first year of the course, I completed all the modules and acheived the highest score in the department with my graded unit, ensuring an A grade. The second year bought new challenges in my personal life, but I still achevied a top A grade for the HND with 93%.

  • 2012 - 2013

    Advanced Diploma TESOL

    London Teacher Training College

Whilst working in China, I completed an Advanced TESOL Diploma distance learning course. I opted to do this course on my own initiative, to be more competent in my position. Given a degree of freedom to choose our essay topics, I focused on technology in education and how it can be used to further enhance learning. I acheived an overall grade of A- for this diploma, whilst also working 50-60 hours per week.

    Chinese Languages (Mandarin)

    Dalian University of Foreign Languages

To improve both quality of life and business prospects in China, I enrolled on and completed an intensive Chinese language course at the Dalian University of Foreign Languages. On the course we learned how to read and write simplified Chinese, however the main emphasis was on verbal communication. By the end of the course, my level of conversational Mandarin allowed day to day communication in the language.
